In just over 18 months, we’ve grown from a small team of 12 to 55, and in that time we’ve worked hard building the world’s first football fan voting and rewards platform Socios.com, powered by Chiliz (CHZ). For the first edition of Meet The Team, our Head of Product Karen, gives us insight into what it’s like to work at Chiliz and on a product unlike anything else on the market.
What does the Head of Product do?
I see my role as a Head of Product as having two main goals — one is to ensure that the product satisfies the company vision and the other is to be the voice of our users. This allows me to bring the user perspective to any decision we make in terms of product and to ensure we have a product that our users will enjoy using.
What’s your background?
I’m a Network Engineer and I’ve spent most of my career working within the area of desktop virtualization, mainly supporting and educating our customers on our products. From various experiences, I developed a strong interest in Product management, leading to reading a Masters degree in the subject and working in this area.
What does your average day look like?
No two days are ever the same. My role allows me to work with every department in the company; from working closely with our development team, to discussing app designs with our UX/UI designer as well as collaborating with our Legal and Marketing teams. Every day is always different which makes this job so interesting.
What’s the best part of working at Chiliz?
It’s hard to pick the best part as I’m working with a product that has no precedent. We are marrying a very new technology — cryptocurrency — with an established vertical such as Sports. It’s an amazing opportunity and also a challenge. However for me, the best part of working at Chiliz has to be the people I work with; I strongly believe colleagues can make or break a company and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people than our team!
What’s your favorite part/feature of the Socios.com app?
Speaking from a sports fan perspective, the fact that the Socios.com app is giving me the opportunity to have a say in certain decisions that will impact my favourite team is a dream come true. I can’t wait to have fans using this feature and participating in polls.
