  • Chiliz is collaborating with Common Goal to launch the One Shirt Pledge charity auction from 26th August 12pm CEST to 2nd September 2023 2pm CEST. The auction allows participants to bid on match worn shirts donated by sports legends such as Juan Mata, Victor Osimhen, Giorgio Chiellini, and others.
  • Each auction item comes with an NFC chip, allowing the owner to view a video pledge from the athlete. Additionally, they will have Proof-of-Authenticity on chain to verify the item’s authenticity.
  • Stepping into a new era: these physical items will be the first to have their authenticity verified on Chiliz Chain, which is reshaping the sports landscape as teams, fans, and developers converge on this layer-1 blockchain, crafting transformative web3 experiences that intimately connect fans and brands.

AMSTERDAM, AUGUST 24TH 2023: Chiliz, the sports blockchain, is combining the worlds of sports, philanthropy, and blockchain through the imminent launch of the One Shirt Pledge charity auction in partnership with Common Goal, a movement that aims to unite the global football community in tackling the greatest social challenges of our time.

Set to go live from Sat 26 Aug 12pm CEST to Sat 2 Sep 2023 2pm CEST, users can access the auction via MatchWornShirt, a key collaborator of the initiative and the global leader in the sale and distribution of official match worn and autographed memorabilia via its own real time marketplace. This is not just another auction, but a significant tech milestone: it marks the first-ever physical items to have their authenticity verified on Chiliz Chain, the layer-1 blockchain specially designed for the sports industry.

The One Shirt Pledge called on players in March 2023 to donate a match worn shirt from their personal collection. Sports legends such as Juan Mata, Victor Osimhen, Giorgio Chiellini, Cristian Romero, Jermaine Jenas and others have now answered the call and donated their shirts via a video pledge explaining what the donated item means to them, along with their choice of cause within Common Goal’s key action areas of impact. There will be a total of around 30 items for sale. Many of the items have an NFC chip from which owners can access these personalized video pledges, and all of the items have Proof-of-Authenticity on chain from which owners of the auction items can verify that the item is genuine.

These aren’t just digital tokens; they are intricately linked to tangible sports collectibles, providing an unparalleled blend of the physical and the digital. Chiliz is offering an opportunity for enthusiasts to own a real-world collectible that is seamlessly merged with digital authentication on chain. In other words, it’s about witnessing first-hand how technology can validate authenticity and simultaneously support ESG initiatives.

Since the announcement of Chiliz as the strategic tech partner for Common Goal earlier this year, the One Shirt Pledge is the first initiative stemming from this collaboration. Both organizations are keenly exploring blockchain not merely as a tool for fundraising but as a transformative instrument for enhancing governance and transparency. This upcoming auction symbolizes the embodiment of that vision, translating tech capabilities into real-world impact as fans who support Common Goal’s mission now have a direct avenue to engage and financially contribute. The aim remains consistent: fostering a tangible impact in critical areas like Racial Justice, Mental Health, Gender Equity, LGBTQ+ inclusion, Climate Change, and relief endeavors for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.

“Chiliz and Common Goal share the vision that technology and sport can be a force for positive social change. By introducing the first physical memorabilia verified on the Chiliz Chain, we’re not just generating funds for Common Goal’s causes, but also attracting new supporters to Common Goal by leveraging blockchain technology to elevate traditional fan activities like collecting memorabilia,” commented Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO of Chiliz.
